Notes
Side Dishes or Accompaniments
- Prosciutto or Speck: A salty, savory cured meat adds depth and contrast to the sweetness of the figs and honey. You can serve it on the side or even layer a thin slice onto the toast.
- Arugula Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette: Peppery and bright, it balances the richness of the burrata. Add shaved parmesan or toasted walnuts for texture.
- Marinated Olives: A salty, briny counterpoint to the soft sweetness of the toast. Keeps things light but satisfying.
- Toasted Nuts (Walnuts or Marcona Almonds): Adds crunch and earthiness. Especially great if you’re serving this toast as part of a larger board or brunch spread.
- Soft-Boiled Egg or Poached Egg (for brunch): A protein boost and another layer of creaminess if you want to make it more of a meal.
Wine Pairings
Because of the dish’s sweet-savory balance and creamy richness, the key is to match with wines that are:
- Aromatic
- Moderate in acidity
- Fruit-forward or lightly floral
- White or Rosé
- Gewürztraminer – Floral, slightly sweet, great with figs and honey.
- Chenin Blanc – Especially off-dry or sparkling; pear, apple, and honeyed notes.
- Prosecco – Light bubbles cleanse the palate and complement the burrata.
- Dry Rosé (Provence-style) – Fresh, herbal, and elegant with figs and basil.
- Red (light-bodied)
- Pinot Noir – Delicate, fruity, with enough acid to cut through the burrata.
- Lambrusco (dry style) – Bubbly, earthy, slightly savory — excellent with fig and cured meats.
Non-Alcoholic Pairings
- Sparkling Water with a Splash of White Grape Juice: Lightly sweet and fizzy — elegant without being sugary.
- Iced Hibiscus Tea with Basil or Orange Peel: Tart and floral, it enhances the fresh fig and complements the basil.
- Cucumber-Lemon Sparkler: Refreshing and clean, this contrasts the richness of the cheese.
- Chilled Apple Cider (unsweetened): Earthy and slightly tart, perfect for fig-based dishes.
Dessert Pairings (if part of a meal)
If you’re ending a meal with Fig U Mia Toast (or serving it before dessert), here are options that won’t overwhelm it:
- Almond Panna Cotta – Subtle and nutty.
- Lemon Sorbet – Bright and refreshing palate cleanser.
- Dark Chocolate Bark with Sea Salt and Nuts – Bitter, salty, and a little sweet.
