Corn Dog and Batter
Serves: 6

This is “THE” same corn dog batter you see at the state fairs and every carnival. This version has an additional option of chili powder to give it more of a Chili Dog kick. Of course, you can omit it if you prefer. Partnered with our Guy Fondue recipe, it’s a fun appetizer for adults or a dinner meal “home run” for the kids.

- 1 cup Corn Meal (Yellow)
- 1 Tbsp. Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Baking Powder
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Chili Powder
- 2 Extra Large Eggs
- 1 cup Milk
- 1⁄4 cup Vegetable Oil
- – Oil for Frying
- 1 Lb Hot Dogs
Instructions
- In a large, deep bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt and chili powder.
- In a separate bowl, beat together eggs and milk with 1/4 cup oil.
- Pour liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk together until the batter is smooth.
- Heat oil to 350 F.
- Insert a popsicle stick, wooden dowel or 9″ wooden kabob skewer into each of the hot dogs leaving a 4 to 5″ handle. Using the exposed stick as a handle, dip each hot dog into the batter and coat evenly.
- Immediately immerse batter coated dogs into the hot oil and fry on all sides approximately 3 to 5 minutes or until corn batter is golden brown and the hot dog is heated through.
- Remove product from the frying oil with tongs and drain on absorbent towels.
- Top with ketchup, mustard or condiments of your choice. Alternatively, the Guy Fondue sauce is an excellent topping.
