With each year comes new opportunities. This year at Nino’s is no different. Organic fruits and vegetables are two of the fastest-growing categories in the produce department.
Now, some of you may have noticed that we have always carried some organic produce at Nino’s, but I’m here to tell you that my team and I are going to put real effort into expanding and emphasizing the organic produce that is readily available at our stores.
Among the items we currently carry are broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, romaine, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, squashes, tomatoes, yams, apples, berries, grapes, lemons, bananas, oranges, and pears. Now, just like conventional produce, some of these are seasonal, and if they are not up to Nino’s standards, we will not buy them.
We have already launched our new organic herb line, which has been in our stores since before Thanksgiving. If you recently bought basil, rosemary, chives, thyme, oregano, and some of our other herbs, you have already been enjoying the organic experience.
Our Earthbound Farms organic salad line is one of our most popular organic items. Most of our stores have these salads displayed next to our Market Greens fresh-cut salad case. The varieties in the Earthbound Farms line are baby arugula, baby lettuce, baby romaine, spring mix, half & half, and our most popular, the baby spinach blend.
In the coming year, we plan to expand on such items as asparagus, beans, green onions, cucumbers, bunch carrots, green & red leaf lettuce, peppers, avocados and melons.
Early this year, Nino’s Troy location will become our first store to have a dedicated organic section, with our other stores to follow shortly thereafter. Please take a look next time you shop at Nino’s!
