Whew! Today was a hot one!
After gardening in the boiling sun all day, who needs a big, heavy meal? These hot summer days are perfect for lighter fare and lighter-style wine. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Bodegas Mustiguillo Mestizaje Blanco 2014
I had this delightful Spanish white last weekend at one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. I put my nose in the glass and immediately smelled the honey and white peach. Then, slowly taking a sip, I got intense flavors of apples and nuts. This wine paired deliciously with the crab cakes I ordered.
Ermisch Cellars Pinot Noir 2012
I love, love, love this wine from Oregon! If you prefer red over a white for your lighter dish, this Pinot Noir is a perfect choice. I would highly recommend this with grilled salmon. This will definitely make your mouth water. The sweet, fatty fish complements the black cherry and silky tannins.
HB Picpoul De Pinet 2014
I fell in love with this wine a couple of years ago while vacationing in South Carolina. I found it very dry and crisp, with notes of lemon and dried pineapple and just a touch of sea salt. This is a must with Oysters Rockefeller or even a light salad.
Here at Nino Salvaggio, we have a large selection of different styles of wine that will pair perfectly with any lighter fare. Please stop by Nino’s! I would love to hear what you think of these wines
I hope you found this helpful.
Cheers,
Simone
