Skip the Same Old Same Old and Wow Your Guests With These Non-traditional Switch UPS of Classic Appetizers.
By Chef Jacqueline Keller
It’s almost game day! Sure, we here in the Detroit area never have a home team to root for in the biggest game of the football season … but we’re pretty used to that by now. That has never stopped us from gathering, snacking and playing some squares!
It seems that at every get together there are fans of the game, the half time show and those who just watch the commercials. The one essential thing that brings these groups together is the food, of course, especially the game day snacks! Sure, there are staples that must be out for every game day, we’re not telling you to skip the potato chips, but this year surprise your friends or guests with one or two of our twists on common party foods.
Best of all, the ingredients for all these recipes can be found at your neighborhood Nino’s!
Cajun Blue Cheese Snackers
This super quick and easy recipe creates a dangerously addictive salty and crunch snack! These are perfect for popping in your mouth through any nerve-racking play in the game.
Jalapeño Popper Fried Mezzaluna (Ravioli)
Cheesy, Spicy and Fried, what’s not love? Serve these Fried Ravioli with some nice cool ranch for dipping and enjoy all the flavor of a jalapeno popper with a crunchy crispy outside!
Loaded Sweet Potato Skins with Chevre and Bacon
This take on the classic bar appetizer is straight up decadent. Why can’t game day be bougie?
Sauceless Buffalo Wings
This recipe is perfect for those who love a good Buffalo Wing, but hate the mess of the sauce. With sauceless wings there’s no lips burning from getting sauce all over them, and there’s also no steam coming out of your ears because a clumsy guest dropped them on your new carpet.
Whipped Feta & Avocado Veggie and Chip Dip
It seems that a vegetable tray is a requirement at all get-togethers. Eating a carrot stick or slice of cucumber seems to relieve some of the guilt for all of the not so healthy foods also on your plate. Use this dip to dress up those boring vegetables… but don’t worry it also tastes great on a fried pita or tortilla chip.
White Queso Dip
This isn’t your mom’s Queso Dip made with overly processed ‘cheese’. We at Nino’s LOVE cheese.. in fact we sell hundreds of varieties of it. So we believe if you’re going to do a cheese dip, do it right!
We hope you enjoy making some, or all, of these game day snacks for the biggest day in football. If you do, take photos and send us the results.
