Here’s Some Perfect Selections to Pair With Your Easter Ham and Other Dishes
By Simone Peterson, Beverage Manager
I’m such a big kid when it comes to Easter, and I especially look forward to devouring the delicious Cadbury cream eggs and Milky Way bunnies all to myself. Easter is such a bright and happy holiday and for me, it’s the official kick off to the spring season. Easter is also a time for families to get together and celebrate with a festival of food and wine including, egg coloring and egg hunts.
Ham is a favorite on Easter, the flavor of ham can be rich and salty so it’s best to pair wines that have either a touch of sweetness and plenty of acidity or even with bold fruit flavors. Lamb can also be a special treat and pairs deliciously with wines that are medium to full bodied reds such has Tempranillo and Malbec. Here are a couple of my favorite picks to pair with your Easter dinner.
Piattelli Reserve Mendoza Malbec 2021
Delicious and aromatic on the nose, plum and blackberries. Well balanced on the palate with rich dark fruits. Smooth ending with a hint of chocolate. Perfect with Lamb, cheddar, and gouda cheeses. Learn more about Piattelli vineyards HERE.
Dr Loosen Mosel Riesling 2020
This wine can be described as crisp, clean and refreshing. It is bright and racy with vibrant acidity. Making it a perfect pairing with ham. It has succulent flavors of honey, apricot and lime zest.
Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel Rose 2021
Delicate and delightful, with the aromas of Lavender and cherry. Bright acid on the palate followed by strawberry and watermelon flavors. A wonderful pairing with salads, charcuterie, and Easter ham. Learn more HERE.
Muga Reserva Rioja 2019
Beautiful aroma on the nose blueberry and cherry notes with vanilla, plum and leather on the palate. One of my favorite accompaniments with lamb is the tender fat capped meat that compliments the dusty tannins of this rich and spicy wine. Learn more HERE.
