“You are what you eat”…”Garbage in, garbage out”, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”, are all sayings that, if true, tell us that our diet, (our health), is no better than what we start with…that is, good, wholesome ingredients or prepared foods.

But if what you have is the same old “stuff” that you grew up on, that your parents always had or that you just somehow “acquired”, then maybe what you “are” isn’t what you’d “like to be”?...

If so, you may want to take this spring to do more than a little “spring house cleaning”…maybe it’s time this year to take spring cleaning all the way into your kitchen.

Specifically, your kitchen’s pantry...

For starters, what should (or should not) be in your pantry depends on a number of things such as personal preference for one cuisine over another, food allergies or whether you have children. So in essence, a “Pantry Makeover” is more like a personal prescription than a generalization; therefore we know that one size certainly does not fit all.

Still, what we can recommend, is a review of what you have available to cook with and why you have it. These core essential ingredients we call a “Foundation Pantry” and that, with a little imagination can lead to some wonderful things.

With that said, we thought you might enjoy a reprise of a package of Essential Pantry tips authored by our own Director of Culinary Development, Chef Pete Loren, as he lectured on this very subject at one of our live cooking shows entitled “Extreme Pantry Makeover”.

Chef Pete’s list of pantry essentials and personal favorites plus some of his great sauce recipes which are perfect for your refrigerator or freezer pantry are JUST the stuff you may be looking for to “shake things up a little” and get your summer off to an “au courant” start.

Go ahead, take a peek!
